Hi! So, you just couldn’t resist, could you?
That’s OK, I get it, and I knew there would be a few of you out there. Is this your first visit to the One Big Idea Blog, or have you perhaps read an entry or two before arriving at this page? Anyway, as promised:
My name is Alexander R. Malaket, I am Canadian and have been consulting in international trade, trade financing and trade-related international development for many years. I am privileged to serve on several boards and industry bodies, have contributed to high-level international policy and feel like I haven’t worked a day in nearly twenty years – since the life-changing decision to be self-employed.
Family and personal background, together with the choice of professional focus have combined to guarantee that travel would be an important part of my life. I am one of those crazy people who actually enjoy the process of travelling, even when things don’t go quite as planned. I’ve probably touched down in about 40 countries so far, mostly short stays, including travels to Singapore for a day and a half, to London for five hours of meetings, and to Madrid for a dinner followed by Beirut by lunch the next day.
I wrote a book a couple of years back for a major UK publisher. No, it did not make a bestseller list, nor has it funded a comfortable retirement, but someone once suggested, only partially jokingly, that it might help with certain types of insomnia. Hilarious!! 😊. Recent areas of interest include the UN Sustainable Development Goals, and the fast-growing subject of Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) issues in business.
Right. Enough about all that for now. Let’s get to know each other more through the One Big Idea Blog.
